Air Taxi, not more than a few years ago, we were all dreaming of futuristic flying cars. As a child, I grew up watching Blade Runner and always imagined that in 2050 I would have my own flying car. But another good news is that this dream is not going to remain just an idle fantasy.

Working in aerospace is a thrilling experience, and not just because we’re getting closer to Mars. Air transport is about to take a big leap forward with the coming of hybrid air taxis.

The world-first vehicles will be able to reach speeds of up to 300km/h, with a range of around 500km. They’ll comfortably fit four passengers and one pilot and use existing helicopter airfields.

The new vehicles will be zero-emission and will make a significant contribution to reducing emissions from aviation here in Europe.

Airbus’ third-generation tilt rotor is based on Vahana, an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) concept vehicle that was unveiled last year. The company hasn’t yet revealed what the new Air Taxi design would look like, but they have said it will have a range of between 500 and 700 km, along with carrying four passengers at a maximum speed of 300 km/h for around two hours at a time.

“Air taxis” are the future of personal transportation, and it’s closer than you think. Just imagine, you could hop in a personal air taxi and get anywhere in a few minutes.

Electra is building a network of sports to be built across Europe. They hope to have the first one built by 2025. As Tiltectra CEO David Vásquez Seijo explains, “The Skyport will act as a connector for individual aircraft, which we call tilt-wings.”

The business intends to create a network of similar skyports across Europe. Individuals will be able to travel from one site to another in minutes. The first one will be built in Spain, and the company hopes it will be operational by 2025.

“Each tilt-wing aircraft has a wingspan of 18 meters, which is similar to an Airbus A320,” Seijo told Future Startup. “This means that an airport with a single runway can handle up to 30 aircraft per hour.”

As for the cost of these flights? Seijo says that “the same way you compare prices when you book with Ryanair or EasyJet, You’ll be able to compare costs from various Skyports.”

The Kitty Hawk Flyer is a personal aircraft that you control with your phone. It has a range of around 62 miles and can be flown in under 10 minutes. Incredibly, all of this will become a reality by 2025, according to the company’s website.

The Flyer is self-piloting, making it a safer option, even for inexperienced flyers. Although the Flyer needs to be controlled by an app on your phone, it can also be operated from a remote control facility.

Traveling at over 100mph, the Flyer is faster than both helicopters and light aircraft, which travel at around 70mph. The company claims that their Flyer will dramatically reduce the travel time to more than just commuting to work or school.

The flying car has been created using lightweight materials that are able to withstand gusts of wind and turbulence. This means that it’s safe for use in any weather conditions, meaning there is no need for rerouting if it starts raining! The Flyer has been designed with safety in mind, and even if you do lose connection with the vehicle through your app or remote control device, the craft will land.

The flying car is no longer just a science fiction dream.

In the next few years, small, hybrid-electric aircraft will be a common sight buzzing around European metropolises. This week, Lilium Aviation announced that it has raised $100 million to bring its five-seat all-electric jet to market in Europe and that it is partnering with German automaker Porsche to help make it happen.

The two companies said Thursday that together, they would develop an air taxi for short-hop flights of about 50 miles (80 kilometers). The vehicle could be on the market as early as 2025.

The investment from Porsche is part of the company’s recently announced push into electric cars. Porsche announced last year that it would launch an electric version of its iconic sports car, the 911, in 2019. It also recently started production of its first all-electric vehicle, the Taycan sedan.

Lilium was founded by four engineers from the Technical University of Munich in 2015 and had been developing a jet capable of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) — like a helicopter but without a rotor — since then. The company said Thursday that it successfully completed its first manned flight test in March 2018 and has flown its prototype vehicle more than 100 times since then.

The jet will be capable of flying at speeds of over 300 miles per hour and covering a distance of over 186 miles on a single charge. It’s set to cost between $200,000 and $300,000 and should be available in 2025.
