Overview

Although Lucid has yet to sell a single vehicle, the company claims that its Lucid Air Dream Edition Range will travel 520 miles on a single charge. The EPA gave its top-mileage model the rating last year. Lucid said, trying to add that it’s the longest range figure ever given by the Federal agency, covering more than 100 miles further than its closest competitor. The Lucid Air Dream Edition battery pack has a capacity of 113 kWh, while the Tesla, the closest competitor Tesla’s Model S which is having a capacity of 100 kWh.

Battery

Despite the fact that 500 miles is a long day of driving, you won’t have to stop for long. It will most likely be the fastest-charging EV when it reaches customers, with the ability to recover 20 miles of range per minute of charging at a peak rate of 300 kW. Despite the fact that this is an impressive burst rate, faster than the Porsche Taycan or any current Tesla product. Lucid claims that the Air can recover 300 miles of EPA range in just 20 minutes. The Lucid Air Dream Edition models will be using Samsung special cells, while the Lucid Ari Grand Touring and other Lucid Air models will be using LG cells.

CEO Peter Rawlinson, who was the chief engineer for the Tesla Model S as it approached its original launch is the one who leads Lucid. The Air is powered by a 900-volt battery pack, with its own battery management system and “miniaturized” drive units. And it also has a Wunderbox onboard charger. It helps to maximize charging of various voltages and allows for future bi-directional charging technology. Such as home energy use and vehicle-to-vehicle charging. Lucid also uses an EV-specific Pirelli P Zero performance tire. It was co-developed with Lucid and is designed for low rolling resistance, increased efficiency, and low noise.

Performance

The Dream Edition Range; one of two distinct versions of the Lucid Air Dream Edition, embodies Lucid’s exacting focus on maximizing efficiency. By achieving 520 miles of range while still delivering 933 horsepower, according to the company.

Design

There is still no information on Lucid Air’s dimensions. It should, however, have a large glass roof. The front trunk holds approximately 280 liters. When combined with the rear trunk, the total capacity is 739 liters. The driver’s field of vision is drawn to a massive 34-inch curved display that floats above the dashboard. This means the driver’s display is more than double the size of the Porsche Taycan’s. There’s also a display in the center console, as well as a few physical controls for volume and air conditioning settings.

The EPA also gave different trim levels a rating. Such as the Lucid Air Dream Edition with 21-inch wheels (481 miles); Dream Edition Performance (achieving 471 miles with 19-inch wheels and achieving 451 miles with 21-inch wheels); and Grand Touring (achieving 471 miles with 19-inch wheels and achieving 451 miles with 21-inch wheels); (achieving 516 miles with 19-inch wheels and achieving 469 miles with 21-inch wheels).

Features

The Air will be the first electric car to come standard with high-resolution lidar, according to the manufacturer. At level 2, it should be able to drive autonomously, and level 3 is supposedly already in the works. Nineteen assistance functions will be available from the start of the market, with eight more coming later via over-the-air updates.

An all-around vision system, a blind-spot warning system, a lane departure warning system, traffic sign recognition, an anti-collision system with emergency braking, and other features are included among the assistants.

Pricing

By more than 100 miles, the Air Dream Edition outperforms Tesla’s longest-range model, the Model S Long Range Plus. However, the additional range comes at a price, with the Dream Edition with 19-inch wheels beginning at $169,000. If the sticker price is too strong for you, you might want to hold off until 2022, when Lucid plans to offer a base model starting at $77,400 (or $69,900 with the federal EV tax credit).

Lucid has announced four different versions. The Air Grand Touring and Air Dream Edition are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2021 at the earliest. The Air Touring is then followed by the Air, which is the entry-level model.  There is still no information on the individual versions’ performance, and the range is only specified according to the American EPA standard:

Conclusion

The Air Dream Edition from Lucid Motors has been given a range rating of 520 miles by the Environmental Protection Agency, making it the agency’s longest-range EV ever.

The EPA rating validates Lucid’s claim from over a year ago that its upcoming electric sedan would have the longest range of any production EV on the market. It’s also a success for Lucid Motors CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson, who oversaw the Tesla Model S’ development while at Tesla and claims that the Lucid Air will exceed Elon Musk’s Tesla company in terms of range, luxury as well as acceleration, and price.
