While no details on the future of the engine have yet been released, Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Muller-Otvos confirmed that the all-electric Rolls must offer at least the same level of performance as the company’s current V-12 models. Rolls “modular architecture and luxurious design harbor” from the outset an electric motor train that seems to indicate the use of bespoke batteries and engines not shared with the rest of the BMW Group.

From the history

Muller-Otvos spoke in announcing the Spectre about the brand’s founding father, the engineer Charles Rolls-Sir Henry Royce, who committed himself to creating the “best car in the world in May 1904 by advancing technology and improving early combustion engines. He did not talk about the secret that many automakers try to maintain when testing new cars in the high-end world of Rolls-Royce and said that the testing process would be made public for the new car. At least we are told, because there is a model called Spectre that has no other manufacturer’s name tag that has no history, and this is the first case where the name is used by a manufacturer.

Background and the Outlook

The Spectre prototype shown in the photos is a two-door coupe with a sleek fastback roofline and an overall shape reminiscent of the now-discontinued Wraith, but company founder Charles Rolls insists it is not a Wraith replacement but one to come. In line with Rolls-Royce’s penchant for creepy names for its vehicles, Spectre is technically a coupe but a Rolls-Royce spokeswoman told Motor Authority that it will not be a replacement for the Wraith. Teaser footage of the car shows it is more efficient than your typical Rolls Royce, which makes sense given its all-electric powertrain.

Inherits.

Building on Rolls-Royce’s new architecture and luxurious chassis for its first electric car, the Spectre will be an all-electric two-door Wraith. The car will share parts with older versions of the BMW 7 series, but Rolls will use parts from the latest Phantom and Ghost sedans and the giant Cullinan SUV to build the new Spectre. Whichever combination of the engine or battery Rolls chooses, that you can bet that the car will be one of the most expensive electric cars to buy in the world.

Emission-free

Rolls-Royce leaps from combustion to full-electric power like many car brands, skipping the plug-in hybrids many car manufacturer companies use as a bridge to build an all-electric future. The 102EX, an experimental prototype based on the Phantom with two electric motors that together produce 389 horsepower, signaled the brand’s intention to accelerate the development of electric vehicles, but we knew nothing about what would happen until the last quarter of 2023 when Spectre was first teased. When the company announced plans to launch its first electric model in the fourth quarter of this year, it began the transition to an emission-free brand by 2030. The car will be built on the same platform as the current V12 engines of brands such as Phantom, Ghost, and Wraith.

Releasing on

Rolls Royce says its latest product the Spectre will be on the market by the end of 2023 and that all Rolls-Royce vehicles will be fully electric by the end of the decade. The British car manufacturer, Rolls Royce announced the name of their first all-electric Rolls Royce as Rolls Royce Spectre and it’s to go on sale in two years.

The car’s testing on public roads has already begun: Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Muller-Otvos described the start of the official prototype development program as “the most significant day in the history of the brand since May 4, 1904” — a reference to the company’s founding.
